Narrative and brain plasticity in children aged 3 to 4 years
Abstract
The study aimed to evaluate the association between narratives and brain plasticity in 3- to 4-year-old children in the first year of preschool at the "Rayitos de Sol" Childcare Center. The methodology was quantitative, non-experimental, and correlational with a cross-sectional design. The population consisted of 20 individuals. A direct observation guide with two sections, one for each variable, was used. The first section, for narratives, employed a narrative comprehension task based on the wordless book *A Boy, A Dog, and a Frog* by Mercer Mayer, consisting of 16 items. For brain plasticity, the Head-Toes-Knees-Shoulders task, with 28 items, was used to assess behavioral self-regulation processes during early childhood. A significant positive correlation of high magnitude was found between both variables (p < 0.001, Spearman = 0.874). In conclusion, a close relationship was identified between narrative development and behavioral self-regulation.
