Abstract

The objective of the study was to carry out a multitemporal analysis of the changes in vegetation cover and land use in the Antisana Ecological Reserve between 1990 and 2020. The present study was developed in a comparative descriptive investigation. The results obtained from the multitemporal analysis of the changes in the vegetation layers and land use in the periods 1990-2000 showed that the vegetations that were affected over time were the native forest, páramo, grassland and glacier. It can be concluded that a comparison of different types of vegetation cover and land use shows a worrying decrease in native forests and glaciers, while páramo vegetation is increasing. In addition, there was a significant change in the shrubby vegetation and an increase in the area without vegetation cover, indicating an important change in the landscape with possible impacts.
